C.S.I uses the most comprehensive investigative approach available today. Our K-9's are our most important tool, but by no means are they the only tool we use. A complete investigation requires a number of steps. The first step in the process is to utilize the K-9's innate ability to locate hidden sources of mold, since up to 90% of all indoor mold is hidden from view this is a crucial step. The ability to locate hidden mold also helps in locating previously undiscovered sources of moisture. After the dogs have done their work it is up to the humans to interpret, as well as follow up on, what the dogs have discovered. Using a number of devices, laser particle counter to measure particles in the air in the mold spore size range plus temperature and humidity levels, moisture meter to measure moisture levels and content in a variety of materials, boroscope to look inside of wall cavities, combined with a thorough visual inspection enables C.S.I. to take site specific samples. These site specific samples provide a detailed picture of what has and may be still going on.

C.S.I. uses a multi tiered sampling approach. Due to the accuracy of the K-9's combined with our other investigative tools, some clients elect to forego sampling altogether and focus on the remediation ( cleanup and removal ) of the mold problem. For those electing to take samples we generally recommend viable, or live, air samples which allow for specific species identification.

Species identification is crucial if health concerns are an issue. C.S.I. also does tape lift sampling. These tape lift samples are like taking a fingerprint of the mold contaminated site. The lab then examines them under a microscope and any spores that are not readily identifiable to the species level are placed in culture enabling growth for a more accurate species identification. Bulk sampling of specifically infected materials is also available as well as culturable dust samples and non viable spore traps. Depending on the specific desired outcome C.S.I. can recommend a mix of sampling methods tailored to meet the needs of each client.

TYPES OF SAMPLING AVAILABLE: We tailor a combination of the below listed sampling methods to meet each clients specific needs.

Viable air samples

Tape lifts

Bulk samples

Dust samples

Non-viable spore traps

TYPES OF EQUIPMENT USED: We use a combination of investigative techniques and equipment then combine this information to put together the most precise picture available as to what exactly is going on.

Mold Detection K-9: Finds mold otherwise very difficult to detect ie: inside walls, under flooring.

Laser particle counter: Measures particulates in the air in the mold spore size range. Reduces unnecessary air sampling as well as making air samples taken more precise. Also measures humidity and temperature. Both factors in mold growth.

Moisture Meter With Deep Wall And Floor Probes: Measures moisture content in walls, ceilings, floors and any other surfaces in question.

Borescope: Enables user to view inside of cavities that would otherwise necessitate cutting larger unwanted holes.

Digital Camera With Infrared Focus: Provides clear pictures of what is happening even in the darkest of locations ie: crawl spaces and attics.

Viable And Non-Viable Sampling Pump With Impactor: Gives the user the flexibility to take both types of air samples available.

C.S.I. Reports: Reports are individually written, unlike other companies who use generic pre-programed templates.

Each report contains a written narrative of the step by step procedures and what sampling methods were used. This is followed by a complete species analysis and comments by a Ph.D. level mycologist regarding the samples collected including potential health implications. The next portion of the report contains what conclusions can be drawn as to what is happening and why. Recommendations are then made as to what steps are necessary to correct the existing problems. These conclusions and recommendations are all supported by detailed pictures of the specific areas sampled and addressed in the report. C.S.I. as well as the labs mycologist are both available to answer any further questions any clients may have regarding their individual report.
